Tanya

Master of Social Work

Tanya Wald is a Registered Social Worker with a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Calgary. Born and raised in the Peace Country, Tanya has a deep connection to the region and a strong commitment to serving the people and communities she calls home. Her passion lies in supporting individuals and couples through life’s challenges with compassion, respect, and evidence-based care.

With extensive professional experience, Tanya has worked in diverse areas of mental health, including addictions counselling, depression, anxiety, and grief and loss. She is especially skilled at supporting people from diverse communities, understanding the unique challenges they may face while celebrating their strengths, resilience, and identities. Tanya believes that therapy should always be a collaborative and empowering process. She views each counselling relationship as a partnership — one where clients are supported to uncover their own strengths, build resilience, and create meaningful change in their lives.

What sets Tanya apart is her ability to blend professionalism with warmth and authenticity. She recognizes that no two stories are alike, and she takes great care to tailor her approach to each individual or couple she works with. Her counselling style provides a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can open up, explore their challenges, and feel truly supported in their healing journey.

Outside of her professional work, Tanya leads a full and balanced life surrounded by her family and animals. At home, she enjoys the company of her partner and a lively collection of pets — including a St. Bernard, a cat, goats, and even a donkey. Tanya also loves to travel and spend time in the sunshine, which allows her to recharge and bring balance into her own life. This sense of balance and appreciation for life’s simple joys is something she carries into her work, encouraging clients to find ways to nurture themselves while building strength through life’s ups and downs.

Tanya’s clients often describe her as approachable, supportive, and genuine. Whether she is guiding someone through the complexities of grief, helping a couple strengthen their relationship, or supporting individuals in overcoming anxiety or addiction, she walks alongside them with compassion and steady guidance. Her ability to simplify overwhelming struggles into manageable steps makes her a trusted and respected counsellor in the Grande Prairie community.

At Interactive Counselling, Tanya is proud to be part of a team that shares her commitment to accessible, client-centered care. Her work is not only about helping people through their current challenges but also about empowering them to thrive in the long term. She brings a unique blend of professional expertise, local roots, and genuine care to her practice — making her a valued resource for individuals, couples, and families seeking support.

For Tanya, counselling is more than a profession — it is a calling. She is honored to walk alongside her clients as they navigate their personal journeys, always striving to provide the guidance, encouragement, and tools they need to move toward stronger mental health and a brighter future.
