Prince George Counselling with Registered BC Counsellors — Online & Phone Sessions
Getting good counselling in Prince George shouldn’t depend on who happens to have an office downtown. Interactive Counselling — voted Best Psychology Clinic Gold four years running (2023–2026) — now brings a full team of Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC), Master Practitioners in Clinical Counselling (MPCC), Registered Professional Counsellors (RPC) and Registered Social Workers (RSW) to Prince George and the entire North through secure video and phone counselling.
Northern BC has one of the province’s most stretched mental-health systems: long public waitlists, a handful of private practices, and hundreds of kilometres between you and your options if the fit isn’t right. Online counselling changes that equation completely. You choose from a whole team of registered BC counsellors — by specialty, style, even language — and see them from your home in College Heights, your lunch break at the mill, or your dorm room at UNBC. Same-week availability, evenings and weekends included, no referral needed.

A counselling team that understands what living in the North actually asks of you
Prince George is a working city. Shift schedules at the mills and in the trades, camp rotations that take one parent away for weeks, winters where you drive to work in the dark and drive home in the dark — these aren’t background details. They’re often the exact pressures that bring people to counselling: relationship strain from time apart, burnout that gets called “just tired,” seasonal low mood that arrives every November, and the northern habit of not talking about any of it.
Our counsellors work with these realities every week. Sessions by video or phone fit around shift patterns — book a 8 PM session after the kids are down, or a phone session from camp. And because it’s a team rather than a solo practice, you’re matched to a counsellor whose specialty fits: trauma and EMDR, couples work using the Gottman Method and EFT, anxiety and depression with CBT and ACT, grief, youth and teen support, and neurodiversity-affirming counselling.
Distance stops mattering, too. Whether you’re in the Hart, out in Vanderhoof, up in Mackenzie or Fort St. James, or three hours south in Quesnel — your counsellor is the same click away as anyone in Vancouver.
Who we help across the North
Adults, couples, teens and families in Prince George and across northern BC — including Quesnel, Vanderhoof, Mackenzie, Fort St. James, Burns Lake and Fort St. John. UNBC and CNC students welcome; many extended health student plans cover our counsellors’ designations.
Does online counselling actually work?
Yes — decades of peer-reviewed research show video and phone therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person care for anxiety, depression, trauma and relationship concerns. What predicts success is the fit between you and your counsellor, and fit is exactly what a full team gives you.

What Prince George counselling costs — and who else might pay for it
Individual sessions start at $165 and couples sessions at $175 per 50 minutes — the same rates as our in-person Okanagan clinics. You don’t pay extra for the convenience of online.
Direct billing: ICBC claims and BC Autism Funding are billed by us directly. Everything else: most BC extended health plans reimburse Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC) and Registered Social Workers (RSW) — we issue detailed receipts you submit to your insurer. Crime Victim Assistance (CVAP), FNHA and Veterans Affairs coverage may also apply; ask us and we’ll help you sort out what you’re entitled to.
MSP does not cover private counselling in BC — but between extended health, ICBC, CVAP and employer EFAPs, many Prince George clients pay far less out of pocket than they expect.
Starting takes three steps
1. Send the contact form or call (250) 859-4485.
2. We match you to the counsellor whose specialty and style fit — usually with a first session inside a week.
3. A secure video link lands in your email. Click it, talk. No downloads, no accounts, PIPA-compliant end to end.

Anywhere the highway reaches — and everywhere it doesn’t — our northern BC counselling sessions reach by video and phone.
If you’d rather see a counsellor in person, our nearest physical clinics are in the Okanagan — Kelowna and Vernon — and we also serve Kamloops online on your route south. Some northern clients pair an annual in-person visit with regular video sessions. Most simply never need to: the work happens in the conversation, and the conversation happens wherever you are.
The therapy approaches behind Prince George counselling that actually moves the needle
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
The most researched talk therapy in the world for anxiety, depression and stuck thinking patterns. You’ll learn to catch the thought-feeling-behaviour loops that keep the spiral going — and interrupt them with tools that work on a Tuesday at the mill, not just in session.EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps your nervous system finally file away memories that have been stuck on replay — workplace incidents, crashes, childhood experiences. Delivered by video with the same structure and safety protocols as in-office EMDR.Gottman Method & EFT for couples
Built on four decades of research into what actually predicts relationship survival. Especially relevant for camp-rotation and shift-split couples, where time apart magnifies small communication cracks into canyons.Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Less about fighting your thoughts, more about clarifying what matters and acting on it even when anxiety comes along for the ride. A strong fit for practical, action-oriented northern clients.Somatic & body-based approaches
Stress and trauma live in the body — the clenched jaw on the haul road, the shoulders that never come down. Polyvagal-informed work settles the nervous system, often paired with EMDR or IFS.Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
For clients who want fewer sessions and more momentum: build on what’s already working, define the target, get there. Many focused concerns resolve in 4–6 sessions. What actually happens when you start counselling with us
The first 50 minutes are simpler than most people fear. Your counsellor walks through confidentiality and consent in plain language, then asks what brought you in — and “I’m not completely sure, things are just heavy” is a perfectly good answer. Together you’ll shape what you want from counselling: symptom relief, a decision made, a marriage repaired, a memory that finally loses its charge.
You set the pace. If a topic is too raw, you say so and the session moves — you’re never dragged anywhere. Most clients leave the first session with at least one practical tool and, more importantly, a felt sense of whether this counsellor is their counsellor. If the fit isn’t right, switching within our team takes one email and zero awkward conversations.
Most Prince George clients notice meaningful change within 6–10 sessions; focused, single-issue work often lands in 4–6. Counselling here is a project with an arc — not a subscription you’re signed into forever.
A note on northern stoicism
The North runs on self-reliance, and it serves you well — right up until it doesn’t. “Handling it” alone works for flat tires and frozen pipes, not for panic attacks, a marriage running on fumes, or a memory from a job site that won’t leave. Talking to a registered counsellor isn’t the opposite of tough. It’s maintenance, the kind you’d never skip on your truck.
Camp rotations & relationships
Two-and-one, three-and-one — rotation work pays the mortgage and quietly taxes the marriage. We see it constantly: reunion friction, parallel lives, parenting whiplash. Couples counselling by video works even mid-rotation, with one partner at camp and one at home. You don’t have to wait for days off to work on the relationship.
Prince George counselling FAQ
Do you have a physical office in Prince George?
Not at this time — we serve Prince George and northern BC through secure online video and phone counselling, delivered by the same registered team behind our award-winning Okanagan clinics. It means no waitlist tied to one office, and a much wider choice of counsellor than any single PG practice can offer.
How much does counselling cost in Prince George?
Individual sessions from $165, couples from $175, per 50-minute session. Direct billing for ICBC and BC Autism Funding; receipts provided for extended health plans, most of which cover RCC and RSW designations.
Can shift workers actually make appointments work?
Yes — that’s half the reason we built for online. We’re open 7 days a week, 8 AM to 9 PM, and phone sessions can work even from camp where bandwidth is thin. Many clients alternate session times week to week around their rotation.
I was in a crash on Highway 16 — does ICBC cover counselling?
ICBC pre-approves counselling sessions after a motor vehicle accident, no doctor’s referral required, and covers video and phone delivery. We bill ICBC directly, so eligible claims cost you nothing out of pocket. If driving itself is now stressful, online sessions solve that too.
Is online counselling effective for trauma and EMDR?
Yes. Online EMDR is a well-established adaptation with a solid evidence base, and our trauma counsellors deliver it by video with the same structure and safety as in-office work — at your pace, always in your control.
What about the winter blues — is that a real thing to bring to counselling?
Completely. Seasonal patterns of low mood are common at northern latitudes and respond well to evidence-based treatment including CBT and behavioural activation. If every November feels like a wall, that’s worth addressing, not enduring.
Can UNBC or CNC students use your counselling?
Yes — and many student extended health plans reimburse our counsellors’ designations. We’re a useful complement to on-campus services, especially when campus waitlists grow mid-semester or you want a counsellor you’ll keep after graduation.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes — sessions are confidential under BC’s Personal Information Protection Act, our video platform is PIPA-compliant, and the limits of confidentiality are explained plainly at intake. In a small city, online counselling has a bonus: no waiting room, no chance of running into someone you know.
Do I need a referral?
No referral needed. Contact us directly and we’ll match you with the right counsellor, usually within the week.
What if the first counsellor isn’t the right fit?
You switch — no awkwardness, no starting your search over. Counsellor fit is the strongest predictor of results, and having a full team means fit is a matching problem, not a luck problem.
Four things Prince George still gets wrong about counselling
“Counselling is for people in crisis.”
Most of our clients aren’t in crisis — they’re functional people carrying too much: a foreman who hasn’t slept properly since the incident, a nurse running on empty, parents who’ve become logistics partners instead of spouses. Counselling before the breaking point is cheaper, faster and kinder than counselling after it. (If you are in crisis right now, call or text 988 — that’s the right first step, and we’re the right second one.)“A guy like me won’t click with a counsellor.”
Fit is a matching problem, and matching is what a team is for. Direct, practical, skills-first counsellors exist on our roster precisely because half of northern BC would walk out on anything that felt like incense and riddles. Tell us what you can’t stand; we’ll match around it.“Online is the budget version of real therapy.”
Same registered counsellors, same evidence-based methods, same session length, same fees, same outcomes in the research. The only thing missing is the drive — and in a city where January means black ice on the Hart Highway, that’s a feature.“If it didn’t work before, it won’t work now.”
The single biggest predictor of counselling success is the relationship with your counsellor. A bad first experience usually means a bad match, not a broken you. With a full team behind one intake, the second attempt starts from much better odds. One more difference worth naming: we’re not a directory or an app. When you contact us, a human who knows every counsellor on the team reads your message and matches you deliberately — by specialty, style, language and availability. That’s the quiet advantage of a clinic over a marketplace, and it’s why our Google rating sits at 4.7 stars across 69+ reviews.
The North waits for a lot of things. Your mental health shouldn’t be one of them.
